By Andy Thompson, founder of Toro AILast updated: 28 July 2026

MacroFactor is the evidence-based macro coach: it recalculates your energy expenditure from your own intake and weight data and adjusts your plan weekly. Toro AI is a pre-launch app that puts AI meal scanning, workout logging, ranked leaderboards, and body-fat tracking in one place. They solve different problems, and it shows.

What is MacroFactor?

MacroFactor is a nutrition and macro-coaching app from Stronger By Science, the group known for research-driven training content. Its core idea: your energy expenditure is calculated deterministically from your logged intake and weight trend, and the app auto-adjusts your macro plan every week. It logs food by AI photo, typed description, barcode, or a verified database of over 1.3 million foods.

In January 2026 the team also launched MacroFactor Workouts, a separate training app at $11.99 per month, or $89.99 per year bundled with the nutrition app. Toro AI will be free to download at launch with a paid Pro tier planned; pricing has not been announced yet.

What MacroFactor does better

What Toro AI adds that MacroFactor doesn't

Who is each app for?

If you're periodizing macros around training blocks and want target numbers recalculated from your own data every week, MacroFactor is the best tool for that job, full stop — pay for it happily. If your problem is less "optimize my TDEE model" and more "keep me scanning, training, and showing up past week three," Toro AI's one-app-plus-competition design is aimed at exactly that, and the trade-off is waiting for launch. Frequently asked questions

Is MacroFactor free?

No. MacroFactor is subscription-only: $11.99 per month or $71.99 per year as of July 2026, with a 7-day free trial. Toro AI will be free to download at launch, with an optional Pro tier priced later.

Does MacroFactor track workouts?

Not in the nutrition app. In January 2026 the team launched MacroFactor Workouts as a separate app with its own subscription, or an $89.99-per-year bundle. Toro AI logs workouts in the same app as your nutrition, with XP for every session.

Does Toro AI adjust my macros automatically like MacroFactor?

No. Toro AI sets calorie and macro targets from your stats and goal, and you can change them anytime, but it does not recalculate your plan weekly from intake and weight data the way MacroFactor does. If adaptive coaching is your priority, MacroFactor is the stronger pick.

Is Toro AI an alternative to MacroFactor?

For pure macro coaching, no — MacroFactor is purpose-built for that. Toro AI is the alternative if you want scanning, training, ranks, and body-fat tracking in one free-to-download app and don't need weekly auto-adjusted targets.

Scan meals, log lifts, and climb the ranks — in one app.
